Secrets to getting a 9 point....unleashed for you !!!!!

Well, ever since I somehow sneaked in a 9 point, people(in particular Darsana/Darshana(05/CSE/42....for easy reference)(Even she doesn't know which is right, how do u expect me to know!!!!!) have been pestering me for treats and with questions like "how did you manage it?". Well, I answered that I didn't know, which was true then. Well,I thought to myself that how could I really manage such an educational calamity......well it really is one, trust me.After some thinking,I could come up with the following people\incidents who\which have contributed to my result..(Studies ain't there, because that played a very negligible role in the entire process).:-

1. Get yourself neck-deep into music. If you love to perform and can do so,practice for it.Time flies like anything and helps you concentrate in your life a lot better.

2. Involve yourself in all kinds of extra curricular activities possible.Visit all college fests that you know of and ones that you havent heard till now.Develop your skills in these fields.I really enjoyed all those days of drama practices and my trip to IIT-KGP was a real fun-filled one. Now,I cant explain how these actually affected my result but all I can say is that these really refresh your mind, help you think out of the box and give you a well-deserved break from the vicious routine of daily life.

3. Contest the college elections....you don't have to lose it like I did but enjoy it as much as you can. It's a time when you visit almost every guy on the campus and visit hostel wings where you haven't set foot till now.The canvassing is actually fun....people think that you're important and you bask in that glory till the time when the results are announced..I got to know people and this whole incident made me well acquainted with many people and I again got a "well-deserved" break....(do you get the idea that there are too many breaks and less of study activities!!!!).

4. Don't attend classes at all....and when I say at all,it means almost none at all.I'll give you a breakup of the no. of classes i attended and you will understand how I managed the 9 points...

  • Compiler Design-8(3 Class Tests)
  • Automata-6(1 Class Test)
  • Networking-1(1 Class Test)
  • Database Management System-1(1 Class Test)
  • Operations Research-1(Introductory Class)
For all those of you who think that these are not true, feel free to go and see my attendance sheet.I don't know how I didn't land up in trouble due to such drastically low attendance....Probably what my friend Ankur said is true..."Either you should have high attendance like people who go to all classes or low attendance like Anish's to get a 9 point"....

Statutory Warning:- Don't attempt this in other departments.Ankur's theory doesnt work in other depts....you might end up with a supplee or an year lag.

5. And last but not the least, get a friend like Kaustuv Bhattacharya(05/CSE/26...this is for easy reference). This guy has been the sole reason probably why i got such a good result. All my class tests were ditto copies of what he wrote...I didn't bother to study even one line. One week before the exam,I managed to get hold of the syllabus and knew what the subject actually meant....and then on days before the exams,he used to come and teach and explain everything to me..It was actually part of his revision exercise. All I did was listened to what he said and went to the exam hall...I actually didn't write anything as part of my study process.Well, thanks to only him,I managed to pull this off...

Now,you've got an idea of how to go about your semester exams...All those who thought that only studies fetched you marks are absolutely wrong..Follow my steps and taste the path of success.......

P.S.:- Please don't blame me if these don't work out for you....I took the risk and they paid off.Maybe they won't again but then....Who Cares????

Football-the world's favorite game

Football has over the ages proved to be the world's favorite game,a game that transcends all cultural,political,socio-economic and behavioral borders and brings together people as one. People play the game with the same fervor and excitement in every part of the world. Every growing kid once has a swing at the ball in his childhood and is bound to get attracted to the game. You might be wondering that how could an Indian be more excited about football than cricket. Well, the matter of the fact is that cricket just happens to be a "richer and more posh" game in this country. But we share the same enthusiasm as an Arsenal or a Man Utd fan....we love the game. In fact, today's youth prefers the game much more than cricket which is the primary reason why they had to come up with the T-20 version of the game. There are some reasons I came up with:-
  1. Football is more action-packed and enthusiastic than any other game. The entire complexion of the game could swing from one side to another in a matter of few minutes, something you would rarely find in any other game.
  2. It is of just 90 minutes duration which perfectly suits today's busy world where people don't have time to spend the entire day sitting in front of the idiot box and spending time idiotically on long drawn games.
  3. The game attracts a lot of money through sponsors( yeah,it does. Not in India, but it does) which means people get to see a lot more action from their favorite stars.
  4. One of the most important feature is that football continues even in the rain, snow, slush and other such natural stuff. So it doesnt need some stupid arithmetic like Duckworth Lewis to decide matches.Cricket should take a break and go join some university;wasnt sports supposed to be a break from studies.Well,i guess, cricket thought otherwise.
  5. Last but not the least, the players play it with a lot of passion and pride, something I find really lacking in other sports.
Football is an absolute live-wire game. It is guaranteed to leave you on the edge of your seats wanting more of it. How else could you explain the fact that every big and small club has a huge group of highly loyal supporters who flock to the ground every matchday to cheer their team. I mean London alone has so so many clubs. Despite the fact that it is not a highly-populated city, you have huge number of supporters for every team who follow their team all around Europe with absolute dedication and devotion. Those who can't make it to the ground do make it a point to catch the game,be it in the late hours of night or in the wee hours of morning. This is a clear indication of the level of enthusiasm that Football can generate.
One major thing that Football has succeeded in doing is that it has spread its roots throughout the world. Although it was initially a British Game, it did spread to all other countries under the British Raj and made a huge impact in these countries. People have since then played the game and see where it stands now compared to other games. 202 registered countries who play under FIFA,the world's governing body for football. With so many teams competing against each other in the World Cup, you can truly call the winner a World Champion, unlike cricket where a handful of teams actually play against each other. The huge no. of teams all round the world provides us with an opportunity to watch games from all round the world, watch our super-heroes excelling and spot young talented players coming up through the ranks.
Football has also helped in solving many world-wide issues,be it political or cultural or socio-economic. Players play in leagues all across the world where there is no discrimination amongst them. It unifies them together and they help us to forget enemies we are fighting on the battlefield. It helps us fight world issues like poverty, racial discrimination, social oppression, diseases, everything. Football has proved to be the highest fund-raiser game during times of any natural calamity. This just goes to prove how football is more of a humanitarian symbol than just a game which 22 players play among themselves. It's a statement which people are making all round the world-one of extending their arms of brotherhood and stringing together everyone with a thread of peace and communal harmony. It's a stage where the so called "poor" and thirld-world nations make their mark and announce to the world that they do exist.Football has over the decades successfully proved to be an ambassador of goodwill and friendship and will continue to do so forever.
So here's wishing all you football-buffs a happy footballing life....may you enjoy the game forever...and don't forget to yell your lungs out for your favorite team !!!!!!

Soul Distortion..(Is all this world has......)

This is a song that someone very special wrote for me about two years back.I had promised that it would be made into a smash-hit song.Unfortunately,I've still not found the proper music to it although I did try on numerous occasions. However, now with good musicians like Karn and Basu,I hope that this could turn out to be Hamlyn's Broadband's first original song...and I would always dedicate the song to that person.....

It's called SOUL DISTORTION...(Is all this world has....).
Here it goes:-

Distorted minds and used souls
Darkened hearts with a thousand holes
Rotten ideals and forgotten goals
Is all this world has....

The unholy priests will preach
the love curse which destroys peace
And the false hopes which can never be reached
Is all this world has....

Chorus:- Inhuman isolated deep and dark
No good left nothing more to start
Nasty big world like hungry sharks
Blind gods and wretched hearts.
With ghastly men whom society carves
Let us run and escape fast.

Unquite graves and barren hate
Vanished humanity and ugly fate
With naked children in various crumpled state
Is all this world has....

The ticking clock of death over the head
The crumpled thorn laid bloody dead
Is what for centuries the innocent have been fed
Is all this world has....

Ch:-

Raw shit emotions and political wars
Dead men staggering with deep scars
The devil approaching not so far
Is all this world has....

Intoxicating power and puppet life
Pain and anger which violence drives
And the unending battle of our lives
Is all this world has....

Ch:-

Let me know how you like the lyrics...Maybe in the coming year, you'll get to hear the song...

Dave Mustaine-the absolute metal genius!!!!

David Scott Mustaine.....the name speaks for itself. An incredible guy with lots of talent, grit, determination within him. A guy whom every thrash metal lover all around the world simply loves for his tremendous contribution to this genre. The blonde-haired,snarling voiced lead/rhythm guitarist has been a person whom I have looked upto since my childhood days. I still remember the day when I was in Class VI and I saw my brother listening to "A Tout Le Monde" on his computer. I was stunned with the amazing manner in which the song had been constructed. Although I didn't realise then but I became a big fan of Megadeth. Today, I think I know why. Its because the song had been composed in an amazing fashion. The video was so complete and the lyrics were awesome. But what stood out for me was Mustaine....the guy had some grace and persona. He is definitely not one of the best vocalists or guitarists but he has this amazing combo which you can't help but admire. And then I read about Dave....well,his life has been a really up and down story. His father was an alcoholic and young Dave was often subjected to lots of beatings and punishments. Music critics say that this had a direct effect on Mustaine who started to do drugs and alcohol from a very young age thinking it was the coolest thing around...Well,you certainly can't blame him entirely for it. And one of the most happening stories in Mustaine's life has got to be Metallica. He was a part of the band for a few years after which he was kicked out for his excessive drug and alcohol use. Mustaine was so angry that he vowed to reply with a band that would play faster, heavier and better than Metallica...Well,and then there was Megadeth...a band which has certainly influenced me a lot...I have been hearing their music for so many years and have never got bored with it..in fact with each passing day, I discover stuff within the songs....amazing lyrics, harmonics on the guitars, completeness in the songs and much more. Mustaine has been the chief architect of Megadeth and he has surely shaped and carved the band in a perfect manner. What I like most about him is the grit and determination he possesses. To form a band like Megadeth and be its frontman for more than twenty years reqiures a lot of patience, guts, courage and most importantly belief in himself that he has got everything that takes to form a band of the stature of Megadeth...Music experts say that Mustaine was basically a child and all he wanted was to get back his lost candy....well,that's not entirely true. It's true that Megadeth was supposed to be a retaliation to Metallica but it slowly became much more than that.Mustaine evolved as a person and a musician and was entirely dedicated to performing thrash metal which his fans would love. The guy's commitment level is something which I really admire. Mustaine and Friedman were a dynamic combination in their years together at Megadeth where they churned up some of the most heard metal songs of all times. However, Friedman wanted to have some more colours added to Megadeth's black and white music which was evident in their 1997 album Risk...However,fans around the world were quite unhappy with Mustaine because he had changed his genre from what they associated the band with...Suddenly their favourite band was no more theirs...This was too much for Mustaine to take and he decided to revert back to the original thrash metal stuff they played, even at the cost of losing Friedman when he knew that their partnership was absolutely awesome. That my friends is commitment to your fans and I wish that Metallica fans were reading this coz once the band went commercial, they were never the Metallica of the Kill Em All days.Mustaine also had his drug overdose problem, something which he just couldn't partake for many years. He had been to rehab for 15 times and once after a show,he became unconscious and then....he died. For 15 seconds he was medically dead while doctors desperately tried to revive him, ultimately succesfully bringing him back to life. This fact added to a radial nerve injury which threatened to jeopardise his career had a lot of effect on his life...these things make you admire the fact that he learned life's lessons the harder way and he remained dedicated to the sole purpose of performing to keep himself and his legion of fans happy....Sometimes, you can't feel sorry for the treatment he has faced, the kind of environment that Metallica created for him and the way he battled out of it..He once said," I was really disgusted at the way things were shaping out for me.When I would walk down the road, people would hoot and would raise the corna shouting Metallica just to taunt me...It was really hard for me to see that whatever they touched turned to gold and whatever I did fall to pieces." There you have it,the child within Mustaine who just wanted to be the best and wouldn't settle for anything below that. A man who taught everyone how to make real good music.A man who stood by his principles and never bulged even in the face of tremendous pressure.A man who reshaped thrash metal and gave it so many directions for other bands to follow.A man who continues to be an inspiration to so many people around the world....A man who was simply a "Genius".

My 2nd favourite debate-Arsenal vs ManUtd.

The Gunners vs the Red Devils has always been a firecracker issue, both on and off the field.A meeting of these 2 high-profile teams usually produces more controversy than good football, which is expected from such an encounter....But the debate goes further more than just two teams playing each other...It's much much more than that.Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson have never really seen each other eye to eye and that has clearly spilled onto the fans. One of the major examples is in my hostel room only...Me(a die-hard Arsenal fan) and my roomie Pallav(an equally die-hard ManUtd fan)....we have one of these debates almost every day.....my team is far better than yours, your team can't play, your team has got no flair etc etc etc..You would expect us to get tired of it but we never seem to lose the enthusiasm of fighting each other for the sake of our fav teams...ok,we dnt fight but then sometimes it gets really heated up...However,there are some observations you just can't deny....As a team,Arsenal are a much better team when it comes to flair of passing..However,Manutd are much better at creating effective chances and goal-scoring opportunities..they are defensively much better than Arsenal which is one reason why they usually go through. However,Arsenal's football is an absolute eye-soothener,a treat for football lovers all over the world..No one will say that they love watching ManUtd's style of playing but would definitely want to adopt Arsenal's fast and one-touch passing game.On their day,Arsenal are a force to reckon with while Manutd have enjoyed a relatively more champion's luck where they have just about scraped through to a win or a draw on several occasions. I just wish that ManUtd fans could be a bit more open and learn to acknowledge good football. You have got to understand that it's not always about the scoreline. When a footballer retires,he is remembered for his style of playing, for his immense contributions to the team, for the way he played football, not for the no, of titles he won with a club...No doubt ManUtd are far better at winning titles than any other Premier League team and kudos to them for that...but then,it's time they played as a team just like Arsenal do and not portray their individual brilliances on the pitch and forget that they are there to play as a team.Well, this is another never ending battle which can never be sorted out,no matter how many blogs I write about it or Pallav writes about it,no matter how many titles these two teams clinch...as I said earlier, these two teams have become something much much more than Football....and I believe the only solution is that both of them play good football to treat our eyes and refresh our minds

My all time favourite debate-Megadeth vs Metallica

If you are a metal buff, you just can't ignore this topic..It's bound to come up in those rock-adda sessions....."Who's better, Megadeth or Metallica" or "Deth vs Tallica" as it is popularly known...Those who have engaged in such a discussion will know that there's no end to it..there are a thousand points you could come up with and have someone countering you with another thousand points. Some believe that it's all got to do with ego, some belive its just a personal level clash of minds and some believe its all a healthy rivalry between the bands.Well, let me tell you,its got nothing to do with the term "healthy".It all started when Dave Mustaine, the then lead guitarist of Metallica was kicked out of the band on a morning of 1983 on grounds of him being a violent drinker and his potential bad influence which could stop the progress of the band.Mustaine later said that when he was kicked out of Metallica, the only thing in his mind was," All i wanted then was their blood.I just wanted to play faster and heavier than them." This was the start of the never-ending feud between these 2 legendary bands who have over the last 2 decades defined "Thrash Metal". Megadeth did come up with many more albums than Metallica but some just couldn't match upto the monumental success that the Tallica albums enjoyed. Mustaine had later said in an interview," The world could stop to learn a lot from Metallica because they have done everything just about picture-perfect." Interesting, ain't it???Well,me being a big time Megadeth fan, this article could become a Deth-sided one. However, you've got to admit that Metallica were far more disciplined to their cause than Megadeth which is the reason why they have enjoyed far more success than Megadeth. Mustaine was one of the chief architects of Kill Em' All,Metallica's first album which was released after he had been kicked out. That was the first thing which incensed him cause they had released it though he had made it clear that they should never release his music.Megadeth's major success was during the years when Friedman and Mustaine were together. However, every time they came out with an album,Metallica replied with an equally bigger album which drove Mustaine to the point of madness.Just like a child,Mustaine always used to compare his band with Metallica and what he could do to reach the huge fan following that his rival band enjoyed. However, credit should be given to Mustaine for having the grit and determination to show his mettle. The fact that he didn't give up and went on to form a band of the stature of Megadeth. The fact that he didn't make Megadeth sound anywhere closer to the musical styles of Metallica.Personally,I feel Mustaine met with too severe a punishment. However,I don't think that it would have done him any good if he had stayed on with Metallica. The world got some firecracker songs from Megadeth which have surely revolutionized the thrash metal scene....Kudos to both the bands and may they rock for ages to come and fill our ears with such songs!!!!!!!

Blog Creation !!!!!

Well, here's my entry to the blogging world.....hoping to make it a fun-filled and eventful (How do u make a blog eventful???) one. The account opening was itself an event. I started by filling in the blog title in Arijit's Room in Hall 5 but couldnt think of a proper URL. Was forced to retire to the comfort of my bed in Hall 2, late at night and asked Shreyank to suggest a title and URL. As you would expect, "$hrinking" came up with names like "A PROPER BLOG TITLE" and "www.blogurl.blogspot.com" as his suggestions( Sometimes, i wonder why people dnt beat him up black and blue!!!!) . Anyway, I stuck to my own title and he suggested the URL. Am sure this will go into his blog as another of the innumerable activities he participated in this semester.....So,compiler design can be quite encouraging. I got so bored of it that I actually created my blog, something which even further "encouraging" subjects couldnt make me do over the years.....I will be back soon with many more articles coz its time I went to study (or atleast pretend to do it !!),or else the "encouraging" subject could torment me once again in the form of a supply exam...Adios and keep your eyes open for further posts
